Library visit from West Bengal State University 2024

On the 4thof March 2024, 39 Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) students from the Department of Library Science, West Bengal State University visited our Library.

On the 4th of March 2024, a cohort comprising 39 Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) students from the Department of Library Science, West Bengal State University, Barasat, North 24 Parganas, embarked on an enriching study tour to the University Library, University of North Bengal. Spearheaded by Dr. Sushanta Banerjee, the University Librarian and In Charge of the Department of Library & Information Science at West Bengal State University, the excursion promised a profound exploration into the intricacies of library ethics and functionality.


Upon arrival, the group was warmly greeted by Dr. Mriganka Mandal, the Librarian at the University of North Bengal, whose hospitality set a tone of goodwill for the proceedings. Dr. Mandal commenced the session with an insightful presentation elucidating the foundational principles of library ethics and the essential functionalities of the University Library. His presentation provided invaluable insights into the service ethos upheld by the University Library, fostering an environment conducive to scholarly pursuits for the benefit of NBU users. Subsequently, the students were privileged to engage with a senior Information Scientist who expounded upon the technical nuances and advanced automation services available to library patrons. Through a comprehensive demonstration, the Information Scientist showcased the array of features encompassed within the library's technological infrastructure, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems and Library Management Systems (LMS). This elucidation not only broadened the students' understanding of modern library operations but also underscored the University of North Bengal's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for the betterment of its academic community. The BLIS study tour to the University Library, University of North Bengal, proved to be an intellectually stimulating and enriching experience for all participants. Under the guidance of professionals such as Dr. Sushanta Banerjee and Dr. Mriganka Mandal, the students were afforded invaluable insights into the ethical foundations, operational intricacies, and technological advancements within library and information science. Such immersive learning experiences are instrumental in nurturing the next generation of information professionals and fostering a culture of lifelong learning within the academic community.
